Decisions, Pivots and Giving Yourself Grace
Hello everyone and welcome to the blog. I’m so happy that you stopped by and thank you so much for your support. This month I’m talking about decisions, pivots and giving yourself grace.
Decisions
Plain and simple; decision making is a part of business. Some decisions are straightforward, while others are not so much. Recently, I found myself having to make a number of decisions, which is never easy. I struggled; even up to my final hour and I still found myself questioning whether I made the right choice. During the past several months, I found myself at a crossroads about whether to pivot or not.
Pivots
Sure, I personally feel that pivots in business are normal and to be expected. However, the decision to pivot led me to think about a number of things; “ is this the right time?, is this the right thing?, will this move me towards my purpose or push me further away?, am I following what is trendy at the moment? Although I did my research, spoke with trusted family and friends and thought I came to my final decision, my good pal, ‘intuition’, told me otherwise.
To give you some background, I was invited by a friend to attend a workshop put on by entrepreneur and podcaster, Sarah Khan who is the owner of Corporate Rehab Strategic Consulting. During the workshop, Sarah spoke about her entrepreneurial journey and her discovery of audacity. This really resonated with me and made a once difficult decision suddenly become easy.
Giving Yourself Grace
I realized that my old pal ‘fear’ was getting in the way yet again. At first, I was really hard on myself, thinking, ‘I’ve come so far, why now?’ That’s when I decided, in that moment, to stop and give myself some grace (which is easier said than done!). I told myself that going into business for yourself wasn’t going to be easy and to stay focused on the why. I then made a promise that when I find myself being too hard or when I start feeling the pressure or I start to get frustrated with myself, that I would stop and give myself grace.

Welcome to the blog where I’m so excited to share with you my journey into the world of mompreneurship.
In my last post, I spoke about how I changed my mindset and also touched on a few things that I’ve learned so far along the way. However, one thing that I’ve learned and I find myself continuously learning is how to set boundaries.
Frustrated and guilty all at once 🙃
I will admit, this has been an area that I have to continuously work at. I found earlier on when I first started working for myself, that I needed to figure out and set boundaries for my business. What I never anticipated was that I had to do the same with my family. What I found was that is that my family suddenly thought, “Hey mom is home so she must be free to help with…da te da te da” These little interruptions not only took time away from my business, but I found myself feeling frustrated and guilty all at once and working longer. I then realized that I needed to figure out what my boundaries are and set those boundaries.
Being okay with saying what needs to be said 👍
With understanding and setting my boundaries, I also needed to communicate them and most importantly be okay with that. I remember telling my family that this is not only my business but our business and in order for it to grow, we all need to play our part in its growth. I explained to them what my hours of operations were and the times when I would not be available. Once I communicated my boundaries, I found myself feeling less frustrated, less guilty and more productive.
Sticking to them!
Setting boundaries is straightforward. It’s sticking to them is where I find it to be continuous. Consistency is key! Although it’s not always perfect, my family has become respectful of those boundaries. When I find that the boundaries I set aren’t working, that indicates to me that it’s time to re-evaluate, create some adjustments and start again which is perfectly okay.
